Pictured is my grandfather's 2000 Monte Carlo LS.

Packages: LS and Super Sport
Engine Options:

-LS: LA1 3400 3.4-liter Sequentional Port Fuel Injected V6 with a 9.5:1 compression ratio

180-horsepower @ 5200 rpm / 205 torque foot pounds @ 4000 rpm

-SS: L36 3800 Series II 3.8-liter Sequentional Port Fuel Injected V6 with a 9.4:1 compression ratio

-LS LA1 Final Drive Ratio: 2.86:1

-SS L36 Final Drive Ratio: 3.29:1

Notes: The 2000 Monte Carlo had a major face lift, thus beginning the sixth generation of the Chevy Monte Carlo. It looked more like a traditional Monte Carlo with the body curves re-applied and the updated Monte Carlo script and crest emblems. These Monte's are built on the same W-body platform as the Chevy Impala and Pontiac Grand Prix. There were only two models available for 2000, the LS and SS. The SS (Super Sport) package returned after a 12 year absence and is offered with a 200-horse 3.8-liter V6 and rear spoiler, while the LS Monte Carlo came standard with a 180-horse 3.4-liter V6. A four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission is standard on both models.

Notes: Not much changed appearance wise with the 2001 Monte. Two new exterior color options were added, Dark Bronzemist and Light Sandriff. There were only two models available again, but the SS had an optional High Sport Appearance Package which included ground effects, spoiler, exhaust tips and special wheels. Traction control now came standard on LS models. Engine options stayed the same, with the LS having the 180-horse 3.4-liter V6 and the SS with the 200-horse 3.8-liter V6. The LS and LT packages were both available with the 211-horse 3.5-liter V6 engine only, the LTZ package was available only with the 242-horse 3.9-liter V6 engine and the SS package was available only with the 303-horse 5.3-liter V8 engine. 2007 Monte Carlo

Pictured is my mother's 2007 Monte Carlo LS.

Packages: LS, LT and Super Sport
Engine Options:

-LS: 3.5-liter Sequentional Port Fuel Injected V6 with a 9.8:1 compression ratio

303-horsepower @ 5600 rpm / 323 torque foot pounds @ 4400 rpm

-LS Final Drive Ratio: 2.86:1

-LT Final Drive Ratio: 2.86:1

-SS Final Drive Ratio: 2.93:1

Notes: Much like everything else, all things must come to an end. Thanks to GMs poor advertising, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo has been discontinued again. 2007 was the last year for this model, which was basically a carry over from 2006. The LS and LT packages featured the 211-horse 3.5-liter V6 engine which put out 214 foot pounds of torque at 4000 rpm. The Super Sport package featured the 303-horse 5.3-liter small block V8. The LTZ package as well as the 3.9-liter engine were dropped this year. The LS package was a Flex-Fuel vehicle with the 3.5-liter V6 being E85 compatible. All models come with a 4-speed automatic transmission and are once again front wheel drive. The future looks bleak for the Chevy Monte Carlo. I doubt that we will ever see this model again. If by some chance we do, GM better get it right and put it on a RWD platform with a V8 instead of a FWD platform.
