December, 2005: I recently purchased a set of control arms from a member of the Chevy A-body Showcase. When I got them, they were anything but eye candy. Years of grime, grease and surface rust took their toll. I purchased these arms because my plan is to replace my entire front suspension system with a kit and other parts from PST. But I can't have my Monte out of commission for too long since it is my daily driver. So, I plan on installing the bushings and ball joints into these arms and then just replacing the ones on my car with them. Of course, not looking like this. They need to be cleaned up first. For that, media blasting will do the trick.

My dad called in a favor from one of his friends that works at an aluminum head re-builders shop that is on his UPS route. When I dropped the arms off at his shop, I told him that I wasn't in a hurry to get them back. I am not planning to do the suspension rebuild until this spring. A few weeks went by and I got all of the pieces back from his shop. They look 100 times better than before. Now all I have to do is POR-15 them and paint them with a couple of coats of chassis coat black.

June 18, 2006: I finally had good enough weather and decided to get off my lazy butt to start working on those control arms. Before applying the POR-15 and chassis coat black top coat, I needed to clean them off with some Marine Clean and Metal Ready. Here they are, glass beaded, cleaned and ready for POR-15

June 21, 2006: Here they are, coated with POR-15 and one coat of chassis coat black. They look brand new and are ready to have the bushings and ball joints installed.

July 8, 2006: I finally got the control arms in a few days ago. I didn't get any pics of them with the fender wells off, so these photo's were the best I could get.

July 12, 2006: This is the only photo I got of the new linkage. I finished the install on July 8th.

January 6, 2007: Installed my powder-coated '78 Camaro 1.25-inch sway bar.
