THIRD GENERATION (1978-1980) | ||

|
The third generation Monte Carlo still retained the familiar curves, but was all new for 1978. It was 700lbs lighter, the wheelbase lost 8-inches and this was the first time that a V6 had been available for the Monte Carlo. The 350 was dropped, but retained the 305 small block as an option. It was now a more economical personal car. This was the lightest of the rear wheel drive Monte Carlo's. The trunk lid was fabricated out of aluminum instead of steel.
